A protagonist of Nason & Moretti in the 1950s, Umberto Nason invented the "reversed" cased glass technique: a layer of white glass on the outside of essential forms, with the color enclosed within. Thus the Lidia service was born, winner of the Compasso d'Oro in 1955, eighteen pieces of which entered the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York in 1956, donated by Philip Johnson. An icon of Murano design, bridging craftsmanship and modernity.
